Kevin and Stephanie Lageman

Our faith formations were very different. Stephanie grew up in the Baptist church, marks a personal experience at age 12 as her ‘salvation,’ and was baptized at age 13. Kevin grew up as the son of a Lutheran minister, was baptized as an infant, and confirmed at age 14. When we met, we knew that our experiences and worship styles were different, and even some of our beliefs differed – about baptism, for example. We were very different, but we understood that we had always shared the same hope in Christ. It was a growing experience for both of us, as we discussed details of our faith, and we trusted God to teach us and show us a way to be able to worship together.

We are still pretty young, but our faith in God has seen us through difficult times – sickness and death among family and friends; uncertain times – during job changes; and the Lord has been our joyful guest during our proudest moments –at our wedding, and for the purchase of our home.

Lageman Wedding

Now, in the third year of our marriage, we are finding that faith is what sees us through the day to day – learning to do life together through the work-weeks, home improvement projects, and dirty dishes. Trusting Jesus means trusting that he is good – no matter what happens or might happen – and learning to be thankful for every grace given – even if it is hard, or boring, or tiresome, or not quite what we expected. Faith also means enjoying those many, many grace-gifts that are wonderful and celebrating them because we know who gives them. We have the greatest hope in Jesus. He gives everything we need and more, and we trust him to keep on teaching us how to grow closer to him and love each other like he loves us.
